Rosé's from South Africa are confusing for many people! They are either really sweet or unexpectedly bone dry. Although some people believe that the darker rosé's are normally sweeter, that is not always the case. The Blackwater Lazy Lucy Rosé is a good example of a dry Rosé with a deep pink colour, reminding of French Rosé's from Tavel. The reason for this might be the grape varieties that relate to Tavel Rosé's: Grenache and Cinsault.
This wine is extremely fruity on the nose and delivers on the palate what it promises on the nose: strawberries and raspberries. It is of medium complexity, has a good acidity, and is balanced well. It is crisp upon entry – certainly not 'lazy' – but does not linger long. Therefore, it is an ideal easy-drinking wine for various occasions.
Lazy Lucy has a unique label, reminiscent of a playing card. It comes at a good price, giving you value for money. It is available from Partners in Wine.
