Although De Wetshof is well-known for their wide range of Chardonnays, their Lilya Rosé is just as popular. This rosé is made from Cabernet Franc, planted in Robertson on limestone and clay soils, which play an important role in water retention and subsequently add structure to this wine. The wines were picked early in the morning to retain their freshness and they were destemmed. This wine was made from the saignée method, the French bleeding process of red wines to get the juice for this rosé.
In the glass, this is a salmon pink wine. It is fresh on the nose, with hints of red flowers, red berries, and peaches. It delivers well on the palate, with some spicy notes, plums and cherries. This is a good rosé that will work well for any occasion and with many food options like seafood or carpaccio. It should be served chilled.
