Groot Constantia is one of the best-known wine farms in South Africa. I recently had the opportunity to taste their Methode Cap Classique Brut Rosé - their contribution to the trend to enjoy sparkling wines in South Africa outside of celebrations only. This wine spent 11 months in stainless steel tanks and was aged on the lees for 18 months. It was riddled by hand - a huge task!
This wine has vibrant bubbles that string around a rose gold colour of the wine. The nose offers some fresh strawberries, raspberries and lemon zest. The entry of this wine is fruity, with raspberries, strawberries, tropical fruit and lime. It is overall fresh with a fine, short finish that is dry and zesty. This wine is not bone dry and the fruitiness of the wine contributes to an overall sweet perception.
This wine will work well on its own, chilled well. It can also be paired with some white cheese, salmon or pasta.
