The La Motte Vin de Joie Rosé is a new addition to the La Motte portfolio. Three grape varieties are blended to make an easily-approachable Mediterranean-style rosé wine that can be enjoyed at any time. The Grenache grapes were sourced from Piekenierskloof, the Mourvèdre from Franschhoek and the Syrah from Walker Bay. The start of the growing season has been characterised by rain and cold weather, contributing to good dormancy for the vines and high acidity in the grapes.
The grapes were picked and processed separately and cooled down overnight, to ensure that the minimum amount of colour is extracted from the skins during the crush. Only the first 600 litres of free-run juice were used for the production of this wine.
In the glass, this wine has a light salmon-pink colour. Delicate notes of melon, grapefruit and lime are evident on the nose. It delivers well on the palate, with a fresh but medium acidity, some nectarine, red fruit and candyfloss. It has a medium finish that is crisp.
Only 12,000 cases of six bottles per case of this wine were produced. It is a great wine to enjoy on a summer afternoon with a salad or seafood cocktail.
