Louis Latour Ardèche Chardonnay 2016

Writer's picture: Jaco MeyerJaco Meyer

The Louis Latour Ardèche is a Burgundian Chardonnay that is easy-drinking, works well with food pairings and very affordable. It has a light yellow colour with a green tinge. On the nose, it presents some green apples, lime, lemon and hints of peaches. On the palate, this wine is balanced well. It is not overly powerful but fresh apples, lime and peaches come through against a maintained freshness. This wine was aged for about 10 months in stainless steel vats, so you should not expect the heavy woodiness and vanilla from other Chardonnays in the area. It has a clean finish of minerality that lingers for a short while. It is a great wine to try and should be chilled well.

When I first tasted this wine, I had a packet of biltong for a snack. This Chardonnay, with biltong, happen to be a great combination. It brought out some candyfloss flavours in the wine, which was really unique.
