Niel Joubert Grüner Veltliner 2021

Writer's picture: Jaco MeyerJaco Meyer

The Niel Joubert Grüner Veltliner is one of a few, made from this grape variety in South Africa. Grüner Veltliner is mostly associated with Austria and Germany. This one is exceptional, although it might be strange on the palate for some.

It has a pale yellow-green colour and is forthcoming on the nose. Strong grapefruit notes, lemon, and white pepper. It is very aromatic and fruity. On the palate, you get a freshness with high acidity, with a follow through of lemon, grapefruit and white pepper, but with tropical notes of pineapple and passionfruit. Secondary notes of radish and tarragon spices can be picked up on this wine. It remains fresh until the end.

This is a good wine for food pairings, such as salad, pasta and broccoli soup. It comes at a really good price, so you are not putting much at risk to try this wine. Especially if you like white wines!
