The Uva Mira The Mira Cabernet Franc is one of the handful of varieties planted by Uva Mira in their cool climate vineyards in the Helderberg, Stellenbosch. This particular vintage saw delayed ripening and therefore the fruit expression is more intense and bolder. The wine spent 17 months in 35% new French oak barrels, contributing to oak spice and tobacco notes of this fruity Cabernet Franc.
In the glass, this wine has a light crimson to Burgundy red colour. It is complex and elegant on the nose, with hints of red fruit, cigar box and perfume. The palate entry is dry but elegant, with a balanced mouthfeel that delivers well from the palate: cranberries, red berries, cherry, tobacco leaf, cigar box, tobacco leaf and oak spice. It is a surprisingly fresh approach to Cabernet Franc and certainly not the typical jammy Cabernet Francs that were popular at some point. The tannins are coated and slightly powdery. The finish is long and fruity with a stone mineral character.
This wine is a unique take on Cabernet Franc, adding to the many exciting Cabernet Francs currently available. It can be enjoyed on its own, slightly chilled, but will work very well with lamb chops or a venison dish, particularly ostrich. It is not necessary to decant this wine. It is ready to enjoy now or cellar for up to five years. This wine should not be confused with The Dance Cabernet Franc by Uva Mira.
