The Vilafonté Series M is one of the three wines produced by Vilafonté and is characterised by its high Malbec content. It has a deep garnet colour with some purple edges. On the nose, it offers some black plums, blueberries and blackcurrant with slight hints of vanilla. It delivers well on the palate with additional flavours that add to its complexity: mocha, black cherry, violets and sweet spices. It finishes with a spicy note of vanilla and star anise. It is a bold and complex wine that lingers for long, after the rounded tannins addressed the entire palate.
The 2018 vintage is marked by significant droughts and severe weather challenges. Despite that, the wine is still great and complex. In my opinion, it is significantly different from the 2017 vintage that was characterised by the Malbec red fruits and perfume, that I did not find as prominent in this vintage.
