Bartho Eksteen Meester Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Writer's picture: Jaco MeyerJaco Meyer

The Meester Sauvignon Blanc by Bartho Eksteen – known as Mr Sauvignon Blanc in South Africa – is one of five different Sauvignon Blancs produced by this renowned winemaker. Meester mostly reflects the cool climate of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.

This wine is clear and bright with hints of light gold and green apple. It is slightly forthcoming on the nose with notes of lemon and gooseberries. It is a medium-bodied wine on the palate that delivers on the palate what it promises on the nose, with some green apple, figs and minerality. There is a slight tone of pyrazine that comes through before it finishes off with a fresh lemon zest and minerality.

Dashes of Sémillon was added to this wine, adding some roundness to this wine and hints of honey. It is a decent wine to enjoy on a warm day.
