The Steenberg Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc 2024 is a flagship Sauvignon Blanc from Durbanville, produced from a blend of the two top-performing vineyards on the estate. The name refers to the original farm, Swaaneweide, where spur-winged geese were once mistaken for swans. With nine months on the lees, this wine shows both power and refinement.

In the glass, it has a clear, pale straw colour. It is very forthcoming on the nose, with pronounced notes of fresh asparagus leading the profile. On the palate, it is a powerful and expressive wine, opening with tinned asparagus and lime, followed by layers of fresh lemon, lemon rind and sugar snap pea. Notes of white peach add some balance, while a distinct stone minerality carries through the wine. It finishes fresh, with a persistent mineral character.

This is a structured and concentrated Sauvignon Blanc that will develop well over time, with an ageing potential of 10 to 20 years. It should be served well chilled. The wine will pair particularly well with food, including wood-smoked chicken, pizza or a spicy pasta dish.
