Beyerskloof Pinotage 2020

Writer: Jaco MeyerJaco Meyer

The Beyerskloof Pinotage is a classic Pinotage that remains popular among mainstream consumers. Beyerskloof offers a wide range of Pinotage wines, ranging from the classic Pinotage to the Diesel Pinotage which is their flagship. You can't go wrong here, because we are talking about one of the very top producers of Pinotage in South Africa!

The 2020 vintage Pinotage has a deep ruby red colour with a deep centre. On the nose, it is a medium-bodied wine with a good complexity of ripe plums, as well as red and black berries, and some hints of spiciness. On the palate, it is a fresh wine that delivers on what it promises on the nose: plums, berries and spiciness. It is well balanced with rounded tannins.

I presented this wine at a tasting where we compared it with the Diesel Pinotage. Although people were extremely impressed with the Diesel, they made it very clear that they do not dismiss this wine. For most people, it remains a fantastic wine at a really good price. The one thing that is really outstanding about this wine is the way in which the winemaker maintains a good consistency in the different vintages. This wine is thus a good option if you are not sure what to buy below R100 per bottle.
