Black Elephant Vintners Three men in a tub with a rubber duck 2020

When you serve the Three men in a tub with a rubber duck wine by Black Elephant Vintners, you will certainly evoke some conversation, laughter and inspire people to take out their phones and watch the YouTube video of three men in a tub (see https://youtu.be/8viZB9b_IS4). In this video, the three key figures of Black Elephant Vintners, Kevin Swart, Raymond Ndlovu and Jacques Wentzel (they refer to themselves as the “rebels of the vine”) are seen in a comical video, enjoying this wine. This video sets a great expectation for this wine: nothing pretentious, easily accessible and a bit tongue-in-the-cheek. It is recommended by the producers to pair this wine with Tubthumping by Chumbawamba.

Apart from a very cleverly designed label, this wine is overall good value for money. It is a blend of three classic varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Mourvèdre. It has a medium red colour and presents an interesting medley of black fruit with herbs on the nose. It follows through well on the palate with an elegant entry, bold tannins and blackberries, plums and black cherries. It has a fine, medium-long finish of fresh fruit and a hint of cedar.

This wine can be enjoyed on its own or with a rump steak, roasted chicken or venison potjie. This wine will benefit a bit of breathing, about 15 minutes before serving. It is real value for money and an easy-drinking, everyday wine.
