Bobbyjaan Red Blend 2021

Bobbyjaan is the red blend of Afrikaans singer, Bobby van Jaarsveld. With a delighting story on the back label and a humoristic label, the name of this wine is a play between Bobby (van Jaarsveld) and "bobbejaan" (baboon). I presented this wine, as well as the Kallakat Chenin Blanc by his sister, Karlien van Jaarsveld, at a wine club tasting. One of the themes of the tasting was estate wines, sourcing grapes, and celebrity wines – these wines fitted perfectly. The wine has a medium ruby colour with a deeper centre and light rim. It is forthcoming on the nose with notes of red and black fruits, as well as a prominent minerality. The wine is high in acidity but light-bodied with a modest structure and soft tannins. The fruitiness is on the foreground upon entry, immediately followed by the mineral acidity. It does not develop or linger in any noticeable way. It is an easy-drinking red wine for several occasions and will evoke some conversation around the dinner table. It is produced by the Twïn Wine Collective and available from their website at approximately R120 per bottle. Technical details of this wine are unfortunately not available.
