The Carrol Boyes MCC has a beautiful textured label that hints towards what is in the bottle: something elegant that is making a good statement. Produced in Franschhoek, this Cap Classique offers vibrant bubbles and forthcoming notes of citrus and tropical fruit on the nose. It starts with a soft entry on the palate that becomes increasingly crisp. It is very citrus-forward with lime, lemon and hints of peaches. Soft brioche is evident and the bubbles remain small and mousse-like throughout. It has a long, fresh finish.
I presented this wine at a tasting where I compared South African Cap Classique with Champagne, and the participants found it very difficult to tell the difference. Most people were impressed with the elegant bubbles and the citrus-freshness of this wine. Carrol Boyes wines also imports Champagne and Prosecco, something that will certainly make a fun experience for bubbly lovers.
