The first time I presented this wine at a tasting gave me much joy to see how hesitant people started smiling and giving nods of approval. The reason for the hesitant people was the floral smell of this wine, that is sometimes a bit overwhelming for less-experienced people. Subsequently, they do not get the more subtle nuances of the wine – until they taste it. Then it all starts to make sense. The first thing that becomes prominent about this wine is that it is a semi-sweet wine (with about 21g/l of residual sugar) with prominent aromatics of perfume, flowers and apricot.
The wine has a very soft entry with a good grip to activate the entire palate. The peach tones become more prominent against a backdrop of honey. It is a fresh wine with a soft, creamy finish. It does not linger for too long.
If you are looking for something different to the standard sweet wines, the Cederberg Bukettraube is the one! It will work beautifully with some medium to strong cheeses. It is important to note that the Bukettraube variety is known to have a short shelf life of about a year. Less than 34 hectares of this variety is left in the world but they are used well by vintners. Thus, if you have one of these on your shelf, open it right away and enjoy!
