Deetlefs Estate White Pinotage MCC 2018

Writer: Jaco MeyerJaco Meyer

I am sure that the Deetlefs Estate must be very proud about the first White Pinotage MCC that we are aware of, made in South Africa. Pinotage is really an important grape variety in South Africa and has surfaced in bad and good wines. Deetlefs Estate offers this wine as an MCC on the really good side of the spectrum.

It is a clear wine with some yellow and green tinges and some frisk bubbles. On the nose it is forthcoming with notes of green and yellow apples, lime and mousse. It delivers on the palate what it promises on the nose, with some red fruits such as cherries and plums as part of the complexity of this wine. It is well balanced on the palate with a soft finish of tropical fruit, perfume and cream. The roundness and creaminess of this wine is the product of the extended lees contact and wood barrel fermentation.

I paired this wine with a mozarella ball salad recently. Specific mention was made of how well the strawberries and basil in the salad paired with this wine. It will also go well with roasted chicken and some soft cheeses. This wine is always a winner at my tastings and I will highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good, classic South African MCC!
