Glen Carlou Chardonnay 2020

The grapes for this Chardonnay were harvested from 15 different sites that are diverse in terroir and fermented in oak barrels. The wine has a light-yellow colour with a gold tinge and is clear in the glass. On the nose, there are notes of lemon, lime and green pears, as well as a hint of vanilla and white flowers. It is a full-bodied wine on the palate with a soft entry, quickly turning into a crisp and fresh wine with much fruitiness. The lemon and lime are prominent, but secondary notes of butterscotch are also evident due to wood maturation.

I presented this wine together with the Unwooded Chardonnay of Glen Carlou to compare wooded vs unwooded wines. This is a good wine for its price class and it has been wooded carefully so that it is not rich and buttery but just right in terms of freshness, acidity and fine tannins.
