The Inheritance Merlot is certainly one of the top red wines from the Groote Post cellar and will make any Merlot-lover smile. This 100% Merlot is a complex but elegant wine that are made in small quantities (1400 bottles).
It has a deep garnet colour and is forthcoming on the nose with ripe cherries, plums, perfume and cedar. It delivers well on the palate with an elegant entry, round tannins and flavours of cherry jam, vanilla (20% new oak, about 15 months), plums and raspberries. The acid structure of this wine is firm but supportive of the complexity of this wine. It has a long lingering finish of red fruit.
Cool fermentation took place in open tanks with regular punch downs before the juice was transferred to the barrels. This wine will go well with a stew or lamb chops on the fire. It has a good ageing potential of about 10 years to express its characteristics optimally. Another very good product by the experimental Lukas Wentzel.
