Jan Harmsgat Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Writer's picture: Jaco MeyerJaco Meyer

If I must choose one Cabernet Sauvignon from South Africa that I know will impress my guests, it is the Jan Harmsgat Cabernet Sauvignon. I presented this wine at my very first tasting I ever presented, and I will never forget how people raved about the forthcoming, good smell. I impressed quite a few people on several occasions with the Jan Harmsgat Cabernet Sauvignon, recently again where I paired it at an event with a Roma Rump with a creamy mushroom sauce. You just cannot go wrong with this one!

This wine has a deep red colour with a ruby heart. It has a strong forthcoming smell of blackcurrant, black cherry and green bell pepper. It has an elegant entrance with notes of blackcurrant, tobacco, sweet spices and vanilla coming through. It lingers for long on the palate and finishes with a soft sweet spice of mint and plums. The wine is still bold and complex due to the 4th fill 225 litre French oak barrels in which it was aged.

I really enjoy this wine and it is a regular go-to wine. They normally sell out fast because only 5,000 bottles were produced. Due to the warm climate where the grapes are cultivated, the wine is very expressive and fruity. I highly recommend this wine!
