The Journey's End V1 Chardonnay 2023 comes from one of the oldest wine farms in Stellenbosch, established as a resting point for travellers on their way to the town. This Chardonnay is fermented and matured in a combination of French oak, concrete eggs and clay amphorae for balance, with extended lees contact for nine months, batonage, and 10% malolactic fermentation.

In the glass, it has a light golden colour with a green tinge. The nose is medium in intensity, showing delicate aromas of citrus and spice. On the palate, it has a soft entry and creamy mouthfeel, with good acidity. Flavours of lemon, lime leaf, coriander, yellow apple and candied pineapple unfold, leading to a flinty, persistent finish.

This is a high-quality Chardonnay that competes strongly with its more expensive sibling, the Journey's End Destination Chardonnay. It can be enjoyed on its own or paired with seafood, poultry or light creamy dishes. Serve chilled in a large glass to allow the aromas and flavours to open fully.
