Kallakat is a Chenin Blanc that was created by Afrikaans pop singer, Karlien van Jaarsveld. The bottle has a lightsome label with the story at the back, explaining the name of the wine: a pet name for Karlien van Jaarsveld. I presented this wine, together with the Bobbyjaan Blend by Bobby van Jaarsveld, at a wine club tasting. It was a blind tasting and the two wines were presented together. The wine has a light-yellow colour with some green tinges. It is forthcoming on the nose with notes of lime, peaches and yellow apple. On the palate it is rather light-bodied with lime, apple, quince and hints of sake and cheese rind in the background. The wine has a firm acidity that centres on the palate and a light structure. Its freshness lasts for short while, finishing off with a strong minerality. I am curious to know how this wine will age. It is produced by the Twïn Wine Collective and available from their website at approximately R100 per bottle. Technical details of this wine are unfortunately not available.
