The Kranskop Single Vineyard Chardonnay is certainly one of my best finds in a long time! It is a single vineyard wine that was left on the lees to extract optimal flavour and create a smooth mouthfeel. This wine has a golden yellow colour and the flavours are forthcoming, long before you can bring it close to your nose. Lemon, pineapple, butterscotch and vanilla pods create a complex bouquet that is very promising. It does not only promise something spectacular, it also delivers something spectacular! The entry of this wine is very fresh. The fruit takes a second or two to come forward, but your palate is treated to a mouth-watering combination of lemon, tropical fruit (pineapple and guava), and butter. The softer notes, such as the butter, moves to the side of the palate, while the freshness evolves on the mid-palate. This wine has a long, perfume finish.
I was very pleasantly surprised by this Chardonnay, and at this price it is a steal! If you love Chardonnay, this wine should be either on your shelf or in your glass.
