The Le Pommier Sauvignon Mac is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Malbec. This is a rather unusual duo.
This wine has a deep garnet colour and a deep centre. It is a rather shy wine on the nose, but if offers some complex notes of mulberries, plums, forest floor, leather and some red fruits in the background. This wine has an extremely soft entry with very well-rounded tannins. It has a slightly harsh entry of perfume that immediately transforms into black and red fruits that come forward on the middle palate. This entry softens significantly when the wine is decanted for about 30 minutes. It has a bold acidity that slightly overpowers the balance of the wine, but it remains fruit-forward and spicy on the palate. It has a good length in the finish.
The name "Mac" refers to Mac van der Merwe, the previous proprietor of Le Pommier. This wine will pair well with a duck breast.
