Malanot Bush Vine Chenin Blanc 2019

Writer's picture: Jaco MeyerJaco Meyer

The Malanot bush vine Chenin Blanc is one of two Chenin Blancs produced by Marius Malan – the other is an unwooded Chenin Blanc (non-boisé). These bush vines were planted in 1964 in granite soils in the Helderberg region of Stellenbosch.

This wine has a golden hue and is very forthcoming on the nose with strong characteristics of guava and honey. It has a very soft mouthfeel and delivers well on the palate with complex notes of guava, vanilla, quince, oak spice and green herbs. It has a long finish that is reminiscent of the complexity of this wine.

This wooded wine was barrel fermented and spent 12 months on the primary lees. It was aged in 3rd fill and older barrels to bring forward the complexity of these old bush vines. It should be served chilled and will pair well with seafood or spicy lamb chops. It is ready to drink now or can be left in the cellar for the next 30 years. It is recommended to enjoy this wine with its unwooded counterpart.
