The Piekfyn rosé by Nuy is a brand new wine by Nuy winery from their Mastery range. This wine is the result of the emerging rosé market to which Nuy made a good contribution. Let’s start with the bottle. I never had to stop that many times for people to take a photo of a bottle! A very simple label on the front is complimented by a beautiful rose design on the back label that is visible from the front. The wine also comes in a three-pack with the rose design, painted by Luzanne de Villiers. Giving this as a gift, is giving someone flowers, wine and a piece of art in one. The design of this wine received a bronze award at the Winemag.co.za label awards for wines under R80.
In the glass, this wine has a deep pink colour with a salmon hue. On the palate it has pink apple, lemon peel, cranberry and blackberry notes that are fruity and slightly sweet. It develops in a typical nutmeg and almond hint that makes a close organoleptic connection with the entire Nuy wine oeuvre. So, the first thing that comes to mind is: this is a Nuy wine! It has a long finish of sweet fruit.
This wine should be served chilled well. It can be enjoyed on its own or with shellfish, or snacks. Although it makes a beautiful wine cellar display, this is a wine that should be enjoyed within 2 years. It comes at a really good price and is something new to try out – you should!
