The Paul Clüver Sauvignon Blanc is currently the only non-Burgundian-style wine in the Paul Clüver range – for a reason: it is spectacular. This Sauvignon Blanc is a crowd-pleaser, at a good price, and widely available. It showcases the taste profile of Elgin Sauvignon Blanc well and is certainly worth a try, if it is not already in your fridge!
In the glass, this wine has a very pale colour. It offers fresh notes of tropical fruit, flowers and berries on the nose. These notes on the nose deliver well, with a good acidity that balances this wine well throughout. Green gooseberries, granadilla and hints of pomegranate and grapefruit come forward first, followed by a floral freshness and lemon rind, as well as a subtle blackcurrant note in the background. It finishes off with a fruity and saline mineral note.
At the moment, this wine comes at a very good price and will please a wide range of drinkers, especially because of its balance between dryness and fruitiness. It should be served cold and can be enjoyed on its own, or with light salads, chicken breasts or seafood risotto. This wine can be enjoyed now or within the next five years.
