The Perdeberg Endura range pays tribute to the dryland vines that have to endure annually and produce its best fruit in the form of small, concentrated berries. This Cape Blend is a limited release that is made up of Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. The Pinotage gives this wine much of its red fruit, the Cabernet Sauvignon provides the structure and tannins, and the Malbec adds the perfume and fruit sweetness. It is a fantastic blend and worth mentioning early on that this wine is a showstopper, so it should either be served rather early in a line-up or at the end.
In the glass, it has a dark red colour with a slight purple tinge on the edges. The nose is very forthcoming with red fruit, black fruit, spice and a hint of earthiness. The entry on the palate is very elegant and the tannins are soft and well-coated. It balances extremely well on the palate, with a perfect full-bodied harmony of fruit, medium alcohol and a good acidity. It delivers well from the nose with fresh plums, cranberries, blackberries, blackcurrant, mulberries, milk chocolate and tobacco leaf. The finish is long with hints of vanilla pod coming through. It is a very moreish wine.
This wine can be slightly chilled or served at room temperature. It is not necessary to decant this wine, but it will benefit best if served in a Bordeaux-style glass. It can be enjoyed on its own or with a variety of foods, such as venison, steak, rice dishes, pasta or cheese. It could also complement any dessert well. It is good to drink now or within the next 6-8 years. It is a fantastic Cape Blend that should certainly be tried out!
