Richard Kershaw is renowned for his work with clones and, although this was the first vintage of this wine, he got it right immediately. This is a mouthwatering wine, with chewy tannins (after 13 years), lots of fruit and spice, and a great body. In the glass, it has a deep red colour, but with not obvious sediments. Black fruit, mulberries, cranberries, aniseed, green peppercorns and raw meat are immediately on the palate, followed by subtle hints of polished leather and dark chocolate. It has a long finish with a fruit sweetness at the end.
This wine is just perfect to drink now and can be chilled slightly. It can be enjoyed on its own or with a tender steak or peppery stew. Overall, I was very impressed with the quality of the cork, which allowed for a clean opening of this fantastic wine!
