Spier Good Natured Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

This Australian-style blend (Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon) by Spier is one of two red wines from their organic range called “Good Natured”. These certified organic vineyards are approximately 25 years old and planted in the Olifantsrivier region. For Spier, organic means that no artificial pesticides, fungicides and fertilisers were used in the vineyards, making this a healthier choice for the consumer and the environment. Therefore, the word “organic” should rather be encouraging to consumers to buy such wines.

This wine has a dark ruby to garnet colour and a purple rim. It is forthcoming on the nose with both black and red fruits and hints of black pepper. On the palate, it is a medium-bodied wine with some mulberry, blackcurrant, plum and black pepper. A hint of mocha is evident as this wine develops on the palate, finishing quickly with some fruitiness. The tannins of this wine were integrated well and are fine.

I consider this an easy-drinking wine that will go well with roast chicken, braai steaks and hamburgers. It is not a pretentious wine, which makes it ideal for drinking on its own or pairing it with food. It can be slightly chilled. This wine is vegan-friendly.
