The Spijkerbessie Sauvignon Blanc is the companion of the Spijkerbessie Spijker Malbec. Where Spijker was the bull of Duimpie Bayly, Bessie is the cow from the neighbours, Hennie and Teresa. The label is enticing and simple, calling for the attention of curious drinkers.
In the glass, this wine has a pale-yellow colour with a golden hint. On the nose, it offers apples, stone fruit, tropical fruit and elderflower. It delivers well on the palate from the nose, with Granny Smith apples, fresh apricots, granadilla, lemon zest, green melon and elderflower. It is a medium-bodied wine that is kept together by a racy acidity and tropical fruit profile. The finish of this wine is a bit short and simple, but not standing in the way of another sip or glass.
This wine can be enjoyed chilled well, on its own or with a chicken pasta or grilled chicken breasts. It compliments dishes with mint well. It is good value for money and one of a handful of Sauvignon Blancs below R100 a bottle. It is definitely worth a try!
