This year, Stellenzicht released their maiden vintage of Cap Classique with a 2022 Blanc de Blancs, and it is beautiful! I was excited to know that Stellenzicht planned to add a Cap Classique to their range of wines and I was even more excited when I tasted it and realised that this is not just yet another Cap Classique. While not immediately apparent from the front label, this vintage Cap Classique is a 2022 Blanc de Blancs that embodies the Stellenzicht philosophy and commitment to nature, beautifully reflected in its vibrant label.

In the glass, it has mousy bubbles that settle quickly with a pearly string. It is forthcoming on the nose with citrus, apples and floral notes. The entry is elegant with a good acidity. The citrus notes deliver well with some lemon peel and lemon, followed by gentle notes of grapefruit and seaspray. Green apple is prominent with some white flowers and white apricots. To me, the brioche notes are very much in the background and I feel that this is where they got the Blanc de Blancs right, by making a very fresh and fruity style wine. The acidity is overall gripping and balanced well with the fruit and low alcohol.

This wine should be served chilled well in flute glasses. It can be enjoyed on its own or with meals such as oysters, a scallop pasta, chicken salad or chicken satay. It can be enjoyed now or within the next five years. The Stellenzicht Cap Classique is true value for money and a great wine to acquire for the upcoming festive season. However, one probably needs to be quick as only 4290 bottles were produced. Well done to the Stellenzicht team for a great addition to their portfolio.
