The Strandveld Viognier is a coastal addition to the few Viogniers available in South Africa. It has a pale-yellow colour and is forthcoming on the nose, with sharp notes of apricots, vanilla and spices. It delivers well on the palate, with fresh apricot, peaches and roasted nuts. Some vanilla notes follow afterwards in the background, elevating coriander spices and honey. It takes one on a good tasting journey, with freshness throughout.
What makes this wine really special is that the winemaker is serious about this wines production – it is not just another wine. We see that from the nine months that it spends in 100% new French oak, natural fermentation and the fact that it is only produced when vintage conditions allow. It is a remarkable wine that should be tried by all white wine lovers.
It is good value for money. This wine should be chilled and can be enjoyed on its own, or with pasta, spicy chicken or seafood. It can be enjoyed now or within the next seven years.
