The Swerwer brand is a rock-solid brand in the boutique wine circles. Chenin Blanc from the Swartland area produces some of South Africa's best white wines. Now put the two together and you get the Swerwer Chenin Blanc – a fantastic Chenin Blanc that moves in high circles. No wonder that the 2020 vintage received a 5-star Platters rating!
The Swerwer Chenin Blanc is made in a new world style where it is crisp with notes of dried peaches, yellow apple, quince and lime. It is very fresh on the palate upon entry and remains fresh throughout, developing into softer notes of herbs and white pears. It has a long finish that affirms the balance of this wine: directed acidity but a fruitiness that fills the entire palate. It is the ideal wine for all occasions and was an absolute favourite at my last tasting.
I recently paired the Swerwer Chenin Blanc 2020 with veal saltimbocca and duck confit – what a combination! The zippy acidity of this wine cut through the creaminess of the saltimbocca and the oiliness of the duck, and complimented the meals excellently with its fruit-forward profile of the wine.
