I recently presented the Tall Horse Chardonnay in a blind tasting and it turned out to be the favourite white wine of the day. I cannot help to wonder what the results would have been like if I revealed the label beforehand, but just on taste this wine is a true winner!
The grapes for this wine have been sourced from cooler pockets in the Western Cape and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Some French and American oak contribute to the complexity of this wine, which is very approachable and for everyday easy-drinking. In the glass it has a light-yellow colour with a bright golden rim. On the nose, it offers tropical and citrus notes, with hints of vanilla. It delivers well on the palate with ripe pineapple, lemon, vanilla and stone fruit. It is kept together well by a good acidity. This wine is quite high in residual sugar.
This wine is good for everyday drinking and for those who prefer a lighter style Chardonnay that has not been wooded too heavily. It can be enjoyed on its own or with a creamy pasta, fish or seafood. It should be served chilled. This wine is ready to drink now or within the next year. It is a great wine for those who are concerned about their carbon footprint.
