The Usana The Runaway Pinot Gris was first called The Queen’s Horses. Usana is Xhosa for “baby” or “new beginning”. The grapes for this wine come from the Klein Welmoed farm in Stellenbosch. It was fermented in French oak barrels and left on the lees for about seven months.
In the glass, this wine has a pale-yellow colour with a slight green hint. It is forthcoming on the nose with tropical fruit notes and a crisp zest. The entry on the palate is fresh with a clear stone mineral core. The fruit is balanced with the minerality and notes of Granny Smith apples, lemon zest, fresh white pears, white peaches and a slight hint of honey make this a pleasant wine.
This wine should be served chilled well. It can be enjoyed on its own, but will work very well with food. It will compliment seafood dishes, scallops or roast pork well. It will be possible to cellar this wine for up to seven years, but it is recommended to drink now. This wine offers good value for money and will not disappoint. This wine is available from Clink.
