Allée Bleue Shiraz 2020

The Allée Bleue Shiraz 2020 is a great wine with grapes sourced from the farm in Franschhoek. The wine was matured in 5% American oak, with the remaining 95% in French oak of which 55% of the barrels were new. This is a huge investment to make in Shiraz, but it paid off well. A small percentage of Viognier is added to this wine to add to its softness and elegance.

In the glass, it has a deep garnet colour with a deep centre. It is very forthcoming on the nose with black fruit, liquorice, spices and flowers. The entry is elegant with a strikingly good tannin structure, a silky mouthfeel, blackcurrants, blueberries, black pepper, cloves and violets. It is high in alcohol but with a good balance between alcohol, fruit and acidity. It has a long, fruity finish that remains fresh throughout.

This wine will benefit from a slight chill. It does not need to be decanted. It can be enjoyed on its own or with lamb chops, venison pie, roasted chicken or roasted butternut with herbs and feta. It is good value for money and it has a good ageing potential up to 10 years and more.
