This is an older vintage wine from the library collection of Overgaauw where a variety of vintages are currently available for sale. Therefore, Overgaauw is the ideal brand for vertical tastings and to showcase the ageing potential of their current wines. Tria Corda is Latin for “three hearts” and refers to the three grape varieties that make up the ‘heart’ of the unique Overgaauw terroir.
This wine has a brick red to brown colour with hints of cola, caramel, raspberry and leather. It has a fresh and elegant entry with soft tannins. Sweet cola cherry, caramel, leather, musk and marzipan developed well on this wine as secondary and tertiary notes.
This is a really brilliant old vintage wine that can be enjoyed on its own or with a meal of roasted beef and vegetables. I presented this wine alongside its 2019 vintage and this more developed wine was certainly a favourite for the day. The cork was fragile and should be removed with a Durant. Some sediments accumulated at the bottom of the bottle but it was not necessary to filter them out.
What is really commendable about Overgaauw is that the acknowledge the potential faults of older vintages and they advertise openly that they will replace any faulty older vintages.
